Do not despise small beginnings. The field where you are picking leftovers today may be the place where God opens your next door.

Ruth’s life was not easy. She lost her husband, left her homeland, and followed her mother-in-law, Naomi, to a place she did not know. Naomi was heartbroken and poor, and Ruth could have walked away to start a new life for herself.

But Ruth chose love, faithfulness, and courage.

She said to Naomi:

“Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
Ruth 1:16

When they arrived in Bethlehem, Ruth had no money and no guarantee of a better future. She went into the fields to pick leftover grain so that she and Naomi could eat. It looked like a small, ordinary step, but God was already working behind the scenes.

In that field, Ruth met Boaz, a kind and honourable man. Boaz noticed her faithfulness, protected her, and later married her.

What began as a loss turned into a blessing. Ruth, the woman who arrived with nothing, became part of the family line of King David — and later, the family line of Jesus Christ.

Ruth’s story reminds us that God can use your painful season to lead you into a blessed future.

You may feel like you are just surviving, but God may be positioning you for something greater.
